How to Install IPTV on a Fire TV Stick
A complete walkthrough, from a Fire Stick still in the box to live TV on screen. Around ten minutes, no computer needed, no technical background required.
This guide covers every Fire TV Stick model, including the Fire TV Stick 4K and the Fire TV Cube. Everything is done from the remote. You never need a computer, a phone or a second device to complete the setup.
The order below matters. Most guides tell you to enable the unknown-sources permission first and install Downloader afterwards, which no longer works on current Fire OS: that permission is now granted per-app, and Downloader has to exist on the device before you can grant it. Installing Downloader first avoids the dead end.
You'll install two things: Downloader, which comes from Amazon's own store and exists only to fetch other apps, and one player app, which is what you actually watch in. Nothing here modifies the Fire OS system, roots the device or voids anything. The permission in Step 2 is a standard Android setting that Amazon exposes deliberately.
Before you start
- A Fire TV Stick connected to your TV.
- A stable internet connection: 25 Mbps or better if you plan to watch in 4K.
- Your login details, which we send on WhatsApp.
- About ten minutes.
Everything below is a one-time setup. Once the player is installed and activated, opening the app is all you'll ever do again.
Step 1: Install Downloader
Downloader is a free, official app from Amazon's own store. You need it to install your player, so it goes first.
- From your Fire TV home screen, open the Amazon Appstore.
- Search for “Downloader”. It's the free app with the orange icon.
- Install it and open it once so it can request its permissions.
No special setting is needed at this stage. Downloader comes from the official store, so nothing has to be unlocked to install it.
Step 2: Enable Developer Options
This is a one-time setting that lets Downloader install your player app.
- Go to Settings → My Fire TV → About.
- Highlight your Fire TV Stick's name at the top and press the select button 7 times in a row. A countdown appears, followed by a message confirming you now have Developer Options.
- Go back one screen to My Fire TV and open Developer Options.
- Turn on “Apps from Unknown Sources”. On recent Fire OS this setting is called “Install unknown apps” instead: open it, find Downloader in the list, and switch it on for Downloader specifically.
If Developer Options doesn't appear, repeat the 7 presses on the device name. They stay hidden until you complete them, and they only count if they're consecutive.
Step 3: Install your player
Open Downloader, enter the code for the player you want and press Go. One is enough. You don't need all three.
- IBO Player: enter the code [511693] and press Go.
- TiviMate: enter the code [272483] and press Go.
- ELK Player: enter the code [82854] and press Go.
When the download finishes, press Install. You can delete the installer file afterwards to free up space. The app itself stays.
Which one should you pick?
All three play the same content at the same quality. If you are not sure, install IBO Player: you send us a Device ID and we activate it, with nothing to type. Our player apps guide compares all of them by platform.
Step 4: Enter your details and start watching
Activation works differently depending on which player you installed. These are the two routes.
- If you're using IBO Player: open it and you'll see a Device ID and key on screen. Send those to us on WhatsApp, a photo of the screen is fine, and we'll activate it for you. Reopen the app and everything is loaded.
- If you're using TiviMate or ELK Player: choose add playlist → Xtream Codes, enter the server URL, username and password we sent, then save. Your channels, films and series load on their own.
The first load can take a minute while the programme guide downloads. That's normal and only happens once.
What about Roku?
Roku doesn't support IPTV apps natively. Its system only accepts approved channels from its own store, and there is no equivalent of Downloader or of the Developer Options described above. This isn't a limitation of your account and there's no setting that unlocks it.
The practical answer is to plug a Fire TV Stick into another HDMI input on the same TV and follow this guide. You switch inputs when you want to watch, and the Roku stays for whatever you already used it for. It's also the standard answer for any TV that isn't a smart TV at all.
The alternative is casting from a phone or a computer, which works but isn't worth relying on daily: the remote no longer controls playback, and the stream stops whenever the phone sleeps or takes a call. Fine occasionally, frustrating as the main setup.
Watching from Canada or the UK
The setup is identical wherever you are. Fire TV Sticks sold in Canada, the UK and the US run the same Fire OS and the same Amazon Appstore, so the codes and the steps above don't change. What differs is the plug and the remote's voice button, neither of which affects any of this.
Prices on our plans page are in US dollars. If you're comparing against a local provider quoting in Canadian dollars or pounds, convert before deciding. The difference is easy to misread when both are written with a dollar sign.
If something isn’t working
Almost every problem with this setup falls into one of five cases, and all five take under a minute to fix.
- Developer Options won't appear
- Go back to Settings → My Fire TV → About and press the device name 7 times in a row. They only count if they're consecutive, so a pause resets the count.
- Downloader won't install the app
- Check that Downloader has the permission enabled under Developer Options → “Install unknown apps”. It's a per-app permission on current Fire OS, not a global switch, so granting it to a different app won't help.
- Video stutters or freezes
- Switch the quality to FHD or HD inside the player and restart your router. 4K needs a fast, steady connection, and stability matters more than peak speed. If it persists, our buffering guide covers provider traffic shaping and peak-hour slowdowns.
- Channels won't load
- Close the app completely, reopen it and wait a minute. If it's still empty, message us and we'll check the activation from our side.
- Audio is out of sync with the picture
- Leave the channel and come back. That usually clears it. If it persists on one specific channel, find the decoder option in the player's settings and switch between automatic and software.

Keeping your Fire TV Stick fast
Fire TV Sticks slow down over time for reasons that have nothing to do with your connection or the service. Before assuming the stream is at fault, try these.
- Restart the device once a week: Settings → My Fire TV → Restart. That resolves most stutters on its own.
- Clear the player's cache occasionally under Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications.
- Uninstall apps you don't use. Storage is tight on a Fire Stick and it shows once it's nearly full.
- If the TV is far from your router, an Ethernet adapter for Fire TV Stick steadies the picture more than any setting inside the app.
- Turn off the home-screen video previews under Settings → Preferences → Featured Content. They run constantly in the background and are a common cause of sluggishness on older sticks.
